TheraQuest to Present
Results on Three Analgesics at the American Pain Society Meeting
in Boston
Blue Bell, PA – February 8, 2005 – PRNewswire – TheraQuest
Biosciences, a development stage pain management company today
announced that it is will be presenting positive results on three
acute and chronic pain products (TQ-1011, TQ-1015 and TQ-1016)
at the 24th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Pain Society
in Boston, March 30 to April 1, 2005.
TQ-1011 is an investigational injectable (IV/IM) non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) being developed for the management
of moderate to severe postsurgical pain. TheraQuest has held
regulatory consultations with United States Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), the U.K. Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory
Agency (MHRA) and the Canadian Therapeutic Products Directorate
(TPD). The only injectable NSAID approved by the FDA is ketorolac,
which was introduced 15 years ago. However, the clinical utility
of ketorolac is limited due to its side effect profile and a
short duration of action. In a number of countries including
France and Germany, ketorolac has been removed from the market
due to serious and life threatening side effects. TheraQuest
will present results from a completed placebo and active controlled
Phase II clinical trial in moderate to severe postsurgical pain.
TQ-1015 is a unique once a day sustained release opioid analgesic
in a proprietary, abuse deterrent drug delivery system. It cannot
be crushed for inhalation or obtaining rapid euphoria. It is
also be exceedingly difficult for I.V. abusers to extract the
active drug from the formulation using common solvents. TQ-1015
is significantly more potent than current therapies and it has
a lower side effect profile than other opioids. The target population
includes patients with moderate to severe chronic cancer and
non-cancer pain. TQ-1015 will compete in the same market segment
as MS Contin®, OxyContin®, Duragesic® and Palladone™.
Results from nonclinical studies in mechanical allodynia and
thermal hyperalgesia will be presented.
TQ-1016 is the first product from TheraQuest’s proprietary
beta-adrenergic agonist analgesic synergy platform. I can be
used to enhance the onset, duration and magnitude of analgesia
in both acute and chronic painful conditions. The invention is
the subject of a published Patent Application No. US2004/0209850
by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Results from a nonclinical
study demonstrating synergy with opioid analgesics in acute nociception
will be presented.
Najib Babul, PharmD, President and Chief Executive Officer of
TheraQuest stated, "TheraQuest is pleased to be presenting
peer-review data on three of our candidate drugs at the American
Pain Society, a premiere scientific venue which brings together
basic scientists, clinical scientists and clinicians interested
in the field of pain.”
